Explore Irvington Indianapolis

Rebecca Allison shares her favorite things about this charming neighborhood.

Irvington is a hot and unique market on the East side of Indianapolis! The homes have amazing character with historic charm and the location is superb. I grew up here and moved away to attend Indiana University. Now that I am back living here again, I cannot believe how much growth this community has seen. There are so many charming restaurants and shops on the main strip.

Some of my favorite places have always been here but some have recently moved in! One of my favorite restaurants is Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza and they have been around for a while. There are many other locations around Central Indiana, but the character this location brings is like no other. Also, the pizza and service is remarkable.

A newer restaurant that I frequent is Black Acre Brewing Company. It is walking distance from my house, they have Trivia Night every Wednesday and they craft all kinds of great beers.

All of the shops are very unique and fun to explore. One of my favorites is the Antique Mall. This store has been around for many years and each time I go, I find something different! This antique shop has all different antiques documenting the history of Irvington and Indianapolis. It is definitely a place worth checking out.

Another fun thing about Irvington is the Halloween Festival, which has been happening annually for over 71 years! This week long event has something for everyone, ghost tours, a masquerade ball, movie nights and so much more. One long standing tradition I remember from my childhood is children can paint the windows of the shops along the main strip, something they still do today!

Seeing this neighborhood thrive, the support of local business and just the overall sense of community is why I love Irvington and what makes it such a desirable neighborhood for all!
