Buying A Home That Fits Your Needs

Finding the home that’s just right.

Remember the children’s story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Just like Goldilocks was trying to find the perfect porridge, you should use the same level of discretion (and then some) when searching for your future home. You should not purchase a house that is too large or too small but instead the house that is just right. We advise that you resist the urge to buy the largest home you can afford and instead make your decision on what home would be best for your needs. While location is typically the most important factor in a home buying decision, you should also consider how many spare rooms you really need. After all, you don’t want to have to pay taxes, heat, cool and furnish space that you don’t use.

My advice to buyers is that they make a list of their “must haves” and decide what is most important. If you find a home that meets most of your top needs – especially size and location- go for it! Don’t get discouraged if a home needs some minor updates. Purchasing a home in the right area with room for cosmetic improvements or renovations, could be a great opportunity to make the home perfect for you.

When buying a home, it’s also important that you work with a professional REALTOR® who fit your needs. The process is much more enjoyable with someone who will take the time to educate you on the buying process and home ownership. Knowledge is power, it allows you to make educated decision, which is essential as there are lots of decisions that need to be made. Finally, I always tell buyers to get pre-approved before you start looking. That way you know what you can afford and do not look at homes that are over and above what you need. If you have questions or want to find out some more information, please do not hesitate to contact us and we would be happy to help.
